The Last Days

The message here is to enlighten all of us to the fact that any such reference to the ‘last days’, ‘latter days’, ‘last times’, etc. – does not always refer to the end of the world, the Second Coming, but also refers to various specific events throughout the Word of God and specifically to Jesus’ time here on earth, and the Ultimate Last Day, which would be the Second Coming.  Once Jesus was crucified and resurrected on the third day, and ascended to heaven to sit on the right hand of the throne of God, to rule and reign, we, as another generation just continues the ongoing duration of the last days until Jesus decides to return for His bride on Judgment Day of the unbelievers. Jesus fulfilled everything that had to be fulfilled from the prophesies of the prophets of old. So now, we must all look and watch and be ready for the soon return of our Saviour, the LORD Jesus Christ!

Genesis 2:17 “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

You can look at this as if the moment they ate it, they would have died. “for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.” It appears to allude to dying at that moment or same day that you eat of the forbidden fruit. But we all know that it was actually going to be over a period of time. The death wasn’t going to be instant, but rather over the course of a lifetime. Prior to eating the fruit, Adam was meant to live forever, but that was taken away by the disobedience of eating the verboten fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? So it was to be that man was indeed going to die, which was going to take a lifetime of slowing dying through aging and deterioration of the body.

Genesis 49:1 And Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:

Because of all the evil of what some of these brothers did, and even the brothers that did good, Jacob was telling them what was going to befall them in the last days of their life. For example: Reuben was not going to excel, because he defiled his father’s bed. Simeon and Levi, Jacob told them that they would not receive their father’s honour and his soul would not enter their council, for they slew a man and hamstrung an ox., etc. We can see that the ‘Last days’ here were referring to their last days of their lives and how they would end up living in their last days on the earth, according to their transgressions they committed against God.

Numbers 24:14 “And now, indeed, I am going to my people. Come, I will advise you what this people will do to your people in the latter days.”

This speaks of prophecy of times up to the days of Jesus.

Deuteronomy 4:30 “When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the LORD your God and obey His voice

This speaks and foretells the time when Babylon comes in to destroy Jerusalem and the Temple. Because of Israel’s continued rebellion and disobedience, God will have them destroyed, killed by the sword, some taken captive, while others flee to other nations of the world.

Job 42:12 Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

I believe the latter days here are pretty self evident, regarding the time that God restores everything to Job, plus double of what Job had in the beginning.

Isaiah 2:2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

This speaks of prophecy of the days of Jesus, and Him preaching love and not hate, to not kill, but to offer the other cheek, etc.

Isaiah 13:6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

This foretells the latter days when God stirs up the Medes to battle Israel and just prior to Babylon coming to finish the job to destroy the city, the temple and the people while many die by the sword, many are taken captive and others flee to other nations. And also speaks of the Day of Judgment, the second coming, the day of fire and salvation.

Jeremiah 30:24 The fierce anger of the LORD will not return until He has done it, And until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will consider it.

This speaks of the time when the Lord God restores the land back to Israel and Judah after their captivity from Babylon, in which they will begin to restore Jerusalem and to rebuild the Temple.

Ezekiel 38:8 “After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely.

Ezekiel 38:16 “You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

These two verses speaks of the times when God brings back His people out of captivity in Babylon and restores to them the lands of Israel and Judah, and to gather all those nations that had a hand in defeating and destroying Jerusalem and the temple, but had done more than what God had intended for them to do, thus, setting up those nations to come again to steal, kill and destroy Israel once again, but God destroys them for revenge. Can we say, Armageddon?

Daniel 2:28 “But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these:

I believe again that these latter days are pretty well evident as regarding what will happen to King Nebuchadnezzar and his kingdom of Babylon.

Daniel 8:19 And he said, “Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time of the indignation; for at the appointed time the end shall be.

Daniel 8:23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes.

These two verses of Daniel speaks of the latter days when Greece over takes the Medes and Persians and later when the Mighty Roman Empire then takes over Greece.

Mark 1:15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

This speaks of the Old Testament prophesies being fulfilled once Jesus came to die and rise on the third day and ascend to heaven, thus fulfilling all that the prophets of old had prophesied of Jesus. Everything has been completed and fulfilled, save the Second Coming of Jesus!

Acts 2:16 “But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
Acts 2:17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.
Acts 2:18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.

Of course, these last days were the latter days that the prophet Joel spoke of. The last days which began with the birth of Jesus. And every day, and every generation since has been living in the last days. We are just in the continual last days of the last days from back then. From that time when the Holy Spirit fell on all flesh, it has been falling on every generation to generation since, even up to this present day.

Acts 3:24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.

This speaks of those latter days as being those days of when Jesus was fulfilling the work of God. (these days) in the verse of Acts 3:24 referred to (those days) of that era during the time of Jesus and the apostles, which also is the latter days which were spoken of by the prophets of old. So, from then to now, we have been in one long constant latter or last days. And these latter or last days will continue on as long as Jesus tarries and decides it is time to return for the second and final time, for Judgment of the unbelievers and for the salvation gathering of His Bride, (the Saints).

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

You can plainly see that the last days that the Word of God speaks of, was referring to those days when Jesus was living. And so, once again, we are just a continuation of generations and generations that pass from last days to last days, until That Day!

Hebrews 9:26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

Here again, the phrase, (at the end of the ages) points to the last days when Jesus appeared and lived and died and rose again the third day and ascended to those heavenly places, sitting at the right hand of the throne of God, ruling and reigning until He comes to end it all, on the Last Day, His Second Coming to get His bride and to mete out judgment.

1Peter 1:20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you

From the beginning it was planned for Jesus to come in the last days! And so, here we are, another generation living in the remaining last days until Jesus returns!
